Heteroclinus flavescens, known commonly as the Short-tassel weedfish in Australia,[2] is a species of clinid in the genus Heteroclinus.[3] It is a temperate blenny found around New Zealand and Australia, in the southwestern Pacific Ocean.[3] It was named by F.W. Hutton in 1872, originally under the name Sticharium flavescens, and later under Cologrammus flavescens.[4] Blennies in this species feed primarily off of finfish and benthic crustaceans.[5]
